AIMIM Strengthens Position in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation
AIMIM Expands to 36 Corporators in CSMC, Eyes Stronger Opposition

AIMIM Bolsters Presence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Body

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has significantly enhanced its political footprint in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) by naming three new co-opted corporators. This strategic move elevates the party's total representation to 36 members within the civic body, positioning it as a more formidable opposition force in the region.

Official Announcement and New Appointments

In a formal declaration made via social media on Sunday, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi revealed the identities of the newly appointed co-opted corporators: Mohammad Asrar, Shaikh Ahmed, and Kunal Kharat. Their official term is set to span from 2026 to 2027, aligning with the municipal corporation's electoral cycle.

This development follows the party's assertive performance during the inaugural general body meeting of the CSMC on March 27, where AIMIM representatives rigorously questioned the mayor and leaders of the ruling coalition on various civic issues. The expanded strength is anticipated to empower the party to challenge the administration more effectively in upcoming sessions.

Commitment to Accountability and Development

Abdul Sameer Sajid, the leader of opposition in the CSMC and a prominent AIMIM figure, articulated the party's vision for the city. He emphasized that all 36 corporators from the AIMIM will work collectively to ensure that the ruling parties and municipal administration remain fully accountable to the residents.

"Our primary objective is to establish a regime characterized by accountability and transparency, leaving no room for corruption," Sajid stated. "Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has endured significant setbacks due to divisive communal politics. We are committed to shifting the focus towards a unified agenda of sustainable development and progress for all citizens."

Political Landscape and BJP's Internal Dynamics

Currently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds a majority with 57 corporators in the 115-member municipal house. Based on its numerical strength, the BJP is entitled to appoint five co-opted corporators. However, this process has sparked internal challenges for the party.

Insider sources indicate that approximately 90 local BJP leaders have expressed keen interest in securing these co-opted positions, creating a complex situation for the party's local leadership. This surge in aspirants mirrors previous tensions observed during the distribution of tickets for the municipal elections, where multiple candidates vied for single wards, leading to notable discontent within the party ranks.

The AIMIM's strengthened presence is expected to intensify political scrutiny and debate within the CSMC, fostering a more competitive environment aimed at enhancing civic governance and addressing the needs of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's populace.
