AAP Functionary Arrested in Gandhinagar for Alleged Abduction and Assault of Accountant
In a significant development, the Sector 21 police of Gandhinagar arrested a party functionary of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday. The arrest is connected to a case involving the alleged abduction and assault of a woman accountant, who had uncovered suspicious financial transactions during an audit.
Details of the Incident and Allegations
The complainant, a resident of Gota, works with a pharmaceutical firm located in Sector 25 GIDC, Gandhinagar. According to the FIR, she was assigned to audit another company linked to the firm's management. During this audit, she reportedly detected suspicious transactions worth approximately Rs 80-85 lakh, including payments made without supporting bills.
On March 26, the woman was allegedly forced into an SUV from the company's parking area and abducted. While in the moving vehicle, two women assaulted her by pulling her hair and hitting her repeatedly. She was also threatened with dire consequences if she disclosed details of the financial irregularities she had uncovered.
Investigation and Legal Action
Following the incident, the complainant contacted the company owner and informed him about the episode. The FIR states that she was allegedly pressured not to approach the police and to settle the matter privately. However, she later filed a formal complaint at the Sector 21 police station.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to abduction, assault, and criminal intimidation. During the investigation, the role of the AAP functionary surfaced, leading to his arrest and custody. The police are continuing their probe to uncover further details and identify any additional suspects involved in the case.
