Seer Condemns State Government's Inaction Following Magh Mela Incident
In a strongly worded statement, Swami Avimukteshwaranand has publicly criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for its perceived inaction following his alleged mistreatment during the recent Magh Mela in Prayagraj. The seer expressed deep disappointment that despite widespread circulation of video evidence showing disturbing incidents, authorities have failed to take meaningful steps to address the situation.
Allegations of Mistreatment and Humiliation
Swami Avimukteshwaranand emphasized that people across the nation witnessed the troubling footage from the Magh Mela, which reportedly showed individuals being physically assaulted and young brahmacharis subjected to humiliation. "The entire country has seen what happened," the seer stated, highlighting the public nature of the incident.
He revealed that his followers maintained restraint for eleven days in Prayagraj, patiently waiting for authorities to acknowledge and rectify what he described as criminal behavior. "We gave them ample opportunity to correct their wrongdoing," Swami Avimukteshwaranand explained, noting that this patience ultimately proved fruitless.
Return to Kashi and Questions About Justice
The seer returned to Shri Vidya Math at Kedar Ghat in Varanasi around 9:30 PM on Wednesday, where he addressed reporters on Thursday morning. His comments reflected growing frustration with the current political administration's approach to justice.
"One should not hope for justice in this party's government," Swami Avimukteshwaranand declared bluntly. He pointed out that despite the clear evidence of wrongdoing that has circulated publicly, authorities have neither accepted responsibility nor offered apologies for the alleged mistreatment.
The seer emphasized that the decision to acknowledge mistakes rests with those in power, warning that "if they keep showing arrogance, the public is watching." This statement underscores the growing tension between religious leaders and state authorities over the handling of the Magh Mela incident.
Broader Concerns About UGC Regulations
Beyond the immediate controversy, Swami Avimukteshwaranand also expressed serious concerns about recent University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, which he described as "a big danger to Sanatan Dharm."
According to the seer, these new rules have created divisions within society by pitting different castes against each other in a manner that could lead to conflict. "They have engineered circumstances where communities are encouraged to fight, potentially to the point of mutual destruction," he cautioned, suggesting that the regulations threaten social harmony and traditional values.
The seer's dual critique—addressing both specific incidents of alleged mistreatment and broader policy concerns—highlights growing tensions between religious authorities and governmental institutions in Uttar Pradesh. His statements reflect deepening dissatisfaction with how the state administration handles matters affecting religious communities and traditional practices.
