PM Modi's 3-Day Gujarat Visit: Somnath Temple, Metro Launch & German Chancellor Meeting
PM Modi's Gujarat Itinerary: Somnath, Metro, Merz Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a significant three-day visit to his home state of Gujarat, commencing on the evening of Saturday, January 10, 2026. The itinerary, packed with spiritual, developmental, and diplomatic engagements, spans the districts of Gir-Somnath, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad.

A Spiritual Commencement at Somnath

The Prime Minister's visit will begin on a devotional note in the Gir-Somnath district. On January 10, upon his arrival in the evening, he will head to the historic Somnath Temple at Prabhas Patan. At 8 pm, he will participate in the sacred chanting of the Omkar Mantra at the temple premises. This will be followed by him viewing a special Drone show organized at the Somnath Temple, which has been illuminated in preparation for his visit.

The spiritual engagements continue into the next morning, January 11. At around 9:45 am, PM Modi will participate in the Shaurya Yatra, a ceremonial procession held to honour the countless warriors who sacrificed their lives defending the Somnath Temple throughout history. The yatra will feature a march by the cavalry of the Gujarat Police. Subsequently, at 10:15 am, the Prime Minister will perform Darshan and Pooja at the temple.

The pinnacle of the Somnath events will be a public function where PM Modi will mark the Somnath Swabhiman Parv. In a social media post ahead of the visit, the Prime Minister described the festival as a powerful symbol of India's spiritual tradition, celebrated with devotion and joy across the nation.

Development Push: From Rajkot to Gandhinagar

Following the spiritual ceremonies, PM Modi will shift focus to developmental and economic initiatives. He will travel to Rajkot city where, at around 1:30 pm on January 11, he will inaugurate the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Kutch and Saurashtra Region. He is scheduled to address the gathering at 2 pm.

Later, the Prime Minister will proceed to Gandhinagar. At approximately 5:15 pm, at the Mahatma Mandir metro station, he will inaugurate a crucial segment of urban infrastructure – the remaining stretch of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro. This new section connects Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir, enhancing connectivity in the state capital.

Diplomatic Engagement with German Chancellor

The final day of the visit, January 12, is dedicated to high-level diplomacy. At 9:30 am, PM Modi will meet the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, at the iconic Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. This choice of venue underscores the historical and philosophical significance of the meeting.

At around 10 am, the two leaders will partake in a vibrant cultural spectacle – the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront. In light of this visit, the Ahmedabad City Police has announced that a section of the western road of the Sabarmati riverfront, between Vadaj crematorium and Ambedkar bridge, will remain closed for all traffic from 7 am to 12 pm on January 12. Alternative routes have been suggested for commuters.

The diplomatic agenda will then move to substantive discussions. From 11:15 am onwards at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, PM Modi and Chancellor Merz will hold bilateral engagements. A key focus will be to review the progress in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently completed a milestone of 25 years.

This three-day visit encapsulates the Prime Minister's engagement with Gujarat's cultural heritage, its ongoing development narrative, and India's proactive foreign policy on a global stage.
