Vijayawada: Three Suspected Terror Sympathizers Arrested

Major Counter-Intelligence Operation in Vijayawada Leads to Arrests

In a significant counter-intelligence operation, three suspected 'terror sympathizers' have been arrested in Vijayawada for their alleged involvement in extremist activities and anti-national propaganda disseminated through social media platforms.

Details of the Arrested Individuals

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Rehmatulla Sharif from Wynchipeta, Mohammed Danish from Bhavanipuram, and Mirza Sohail Beg from Mahanthipuram. According to police reports, they were leading modest lives prior to their arrest, working as an Ola bike rider, a biryani shop cashier, and a daily wage worker, respectively.

Alleged Extremist Activities and Radicalization

Police officials stated that the accused were influenced by radical ideologies and were actively sharing and promoting content linked to banned terrorist organizations, including ISIS and AQIS. They were reportedly part of online networks aimed at attracting and radicalizing youth for potential 'jihadi activities'.

Counter-intelligence sources revealed that the trio allegedly formed connections with like-minded individuals across multiple states, such as Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Bihar, West Bengal, and Rajasthan. A larger network operating under the name 'BENX' is suspected to be attempting to expand extremist activities across the country.

Evidence and Investigation Findings

During the operation, police seized multiple electronic devices and mobile phones from the accused. Preliminary analysis indicated that they had searched for bomb-making methods online, although officials confirmed that no successful attempts were made. Authorities also alleged that at least 10 more individuals from different parts of the country were in contact with the accused through social media platforms, and efforts are underway to trace them.

Legal Proceedings and Custody

The accused were produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate court, which remanded them in judicial custody until April 6. The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on dismantling the broader network and preventing further radicalization efforts.

This operation highlights the growing concerns over online radicalization and the use of social media for anti-national activities, prompting increased vigilance by counter-intelligence agencies.
