UP STF Apprehends Mumbai Drug Traffickers in Lucknow, Thwarts Nepal Escape
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) executed a successful operation in Lucknow, resulting in the arrest of two Mumbai-based drug traffickers who were actively planning to escape to Nepal. The accused individuals had allegedly taken refuge in the city following increased police pressure in Maharashtra.
Details of the Arrested Individuals
The arrested suspects have been identified as Bhavesh Chauhan alias Lalu, originally from Hardoi but currently residing in Mumbai, and Shoaib Ashraf Pathan alias Batla, a resident of Mumbai. Both were wanted in a case registered at the Naigaon Police Station in Mira-Bhayander, Maharashtra, and were apprehended at the tempo stand near Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow.
Coordinated Police Operation
The operation was conducted by an STF team under the direct supervision of Deputy SP Dharmesh Kumar Shahi. It was initiated based on actionable intelligence inputs provided by a Maharashtra Police team. Assistant Police Inspector Yashpal Suryavanshi, along with constables Jayant Khandvi and Chetan Thakre from Naigaon Police Station, arrived at the STF headquarters in Lucknow to alert officials about the accused hiding in the city.
Acting swiftly on this information, STF teams began gathering local intelligence and monitoring movements in sensitive transit areas. During surveillance, inputs confirmed that the accused were present near Charbagh and were actively preparing to flee. Following the tip-off, STF personnel surrounded and apprehended the suspects before they could execute their escape plan.

During sustained interrogation, both accused confessed to being integral members of an organised inter-state drug trafficking network. They disclosed that they, along with their associates, were involved in manufacturing brown sugar using easily available chemical substances and distributing it across Mumbai's high-end pubs, hotels, and party circuits.
Deputy SP Dharmesh Shahi stated, "The accused revealed detailed information about their operations, confirming their involvement in a sophisticated drug manufacturing and distribution ring targeting urban nightlife hubs."
Background of the Criminal Network
Police sources indicated that this network had been active for the past four to five years, primarily focusing on expanding its illegal trade within urban nightlife environments. The accused further revealed that on February 5, a major consignment of narcotics linked to their network was seized in the Vasai-Virar region of Maharashtra.
Following this significant crackdown, the duo fled Mumbai and relocated to Lucknow in an attempt to evade arrest. Their plan to eventually escape to Nepal was thwarted by the coordinated efforts of the Uttar Pradesh STF and Maharashtra Police.
