UP STF arrests 2, seizes Rs 80 lakh MDMA in Lucknow

In a significant crackdown, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended two key members of an interstate drug trafficking network and confiscated a large consignment of synthetic narcotics in the state capital.

Dawn Raid Nets High-Value Drug Haul

Acting on precise intelligence, STF officials conducted a targeted operation on Tuesday morning near Suryakunwar Marg, within the jurisdiction of the Gosainganj police station. At approximately 8:55 AM, the team intercepted an SUV and arrested the two individuals inside. The raid led to the recovery of 523 grams of high-grade MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy), with an estimated street value of nearly Rs 80 lakh (80 lakh rupees).

Accused and Modus Operandi Uncovered

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohd Mohib, a resident of Yahiyaganj, and Deepak Singh from Shahjahanpur district. Alongside the narcotics, police seized a mobile phone, Rs 2,500 in cash, a scooter, a weighing machine, and packaging material from their possession.

During interrogation, the duo revealed their involvement in a widespread syndicate that sourced MDMA from outside Uttar Pradesh, specifically from locations like Delhi and Bihar, and distributed it across various districts within the state. Police disclosed that Mohib learned the technique of preparing synthetic MDMA from an associate named Abhay, who was previously arrested in Mumbai.

Network Production and Distribution Chain

Investigations indicate that the suspects were actively producing the drug at a residential location. The network utilized a clear chain for transportation and distribution. Mohib's brother allegedly assisted in transporting the contraband, while Deepak Singh acted as a carrier for the syndicate.

Following the arrests, the STF has registered a formal case under Sections 8, 21, 29, and 60 of the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Gosainganj police station. This action underscores the ongoing efforts by Uttar Pradesh authorities to dismantle organized drug networks operating across state borders.
