Gurugram Court Labels SRS Promoters as Fugitive Economic Offenders
A special court in Gurugram has officially declared two key promoters of the Faridabad-based SRS Group as fugitive economic offenders. The court identified Jitender Kumar Garg and Sunil Jindal under this stringent legal category.
Court Order Details and Legal Proceedings
Special Judge Vani Gopal Sharma issued the order on January 15. The ruling came after the Enforcement Directorate's Gurugram Zonal Office filed an application seeking fugitive economic offender status for the individuals.
The judge noted that both Garg and Jindal failed to appear in court despite proper service of summons. The court invoked specific sections of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018 to make this declaration.
Proclaimed Offender Status Preceded FEO DesignationThe same special court had already declared these promoters as proclaimed offenders on June 6, 2025. This earlier designation set the stage for the subsequent fugitive economic offender classification.
Massive Financial Fraud Allegations
The case revolves around serious allegations of cheating investors and banks. Authorities claim the fraud amounts to approximately Rs 2,200 crore.
The Enforcement Directorate initiated its investigation based on 81 separate FIRs. These complaints came from multiple law enforcement agencies including Haryana Police, Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing, and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Investigators allege that SRS Group directors promised high returns on investments but instead cheated the public. These actions led to money laundering charges against the accused.
International Manhunt and Asset Confiscation
While another SRS director, Praveen Kumar Kapoor, was deported to India on November 1, 2025, Garg and Jindal remain at large. Authorities believe Garg is currently in Georgia, while Jindal is hiding in Dubai, UAE.
The Enforcement Directorate had previously attached assets worth Rs 2,215.98 crore in 2022. These properties were identified as proceeds of crime. With the fugitive economic offender declaration now complete, the ED has begun proceedings to confiscate these properties permanently.
The Fugitive Economic Offenders Act allows the government to seize assets of economic offenders who flee the country to avoid prosecution. This legal provision aims to deter financial crimes and ensure justice for victims.
Background of the Case
The SRS Group directors allegedly fled India after the investigation gained momentum. They evaded non-bailable warrants, Look Out Circulars, and Red Corner Notices issued by authorities.
Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice for Kapoor at the ED's request, leading to his eventual deportation. The extensive investigation continues as authorities work to bring all accused to justice and recover defrauded funds.
