South Goa SP Santosh Dessai Unveils Comprehensive Law & Order Action Plan

In his first month as Superintendent of Police for South Goa, Santosh Dessai has articulated a clear and ambitious agenda aimed at tackling a range of criminal activities. From street ruffians and burglars to rural drug peddlers and illegal bullfights, Dessai has issued a stern warning to anti-social elements across the district.

Prioritizing Public Safety and Crime Prevention

"Maintaining law and order and cracking down on thefts is my topmost priority. I want people to sleep peacefully at night," Dessai stated in an interview. He emphasized that strict action will be taken against rowdies, history-sheeters, anti-social elements, and ruffians. "I have worked out a strategy to rein in such elements, and if needed, externing them from the district is an option we will exercise," he added, underscoring his zero-tolerance policy for any breach of law and order in South Goa.

To combat hooliganism and enhance security, Dessai has implemented increased patrolling measures. "I have already issued instructions for increased patrolling at railway stations and bus stands, and for random, strict checking of hotels and lodges where criminals often take shelter before or after committing a crime," he explained.

Strengthening Drug Enforcement in Rural Areas

The SP highlighted that drug peddling has infiltrated rural regions, posing a significant concern. Police are actively working to establish a strong deterrent presence in identified vulnerable areas. "I have instructed all police stations to strengthen their intelligence networks and act sternly. All police inspectors and sub-divisional police officers have clear instructions to take immediate action against anyone involved in drug trafficking or consumption," Dessai affirmed.

Cracking Down on Illegal Bullfights

A third key focus of Dessai's agenda is curbing illegal bullfights. He has directed police stations in coastal areas to heighten vigilance against these banned activities and has formed a special squad to address the issue. "I have instructed police stations in coastal areas to increase their vigil against bullfights, and a special squad has been created to act on," he noted.

Recently, a meeting chaired by South Goa collector Egna Cleetus and co-chaired by Dessai was held with sub-divisional magistrates, police inspectors, and mamlatdars of Salcete taluka. The objective was to reinforce inter-departmental enforcement against illegal bullfights. Directions were issued to police inspectors to take action against landowners who host such events on their properties.

This multi-faceted approach underscores Dessai's commitment to transforming South Goa into a safer and more secure environment for all residents.
