Major Liquor Bust in Vadodara: SMC Seizes Rs 43 Lakh Worth of Illicit Alcohol

In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor trade, a state monitoring cell (SMC) team conducted a raid on an open plot near the Nandesari GIDC area in Vadodara on Monday. The operation resulted in the seizure of illicit liquor valued at approximately Rs 43 lakh and the arrest of six individuals involved in the smuggling racket.

Tip-Off Leads to Dramatic Raid and Arrests

Acting on a credible tip-off, SMC officials swiftly moved to the location where they discovered the accused allegedly engaged in the process of transferring liquor into smaller containers for distribution. During the raid, one of the suspects, identified as Sunil Tailor, attempted to flee the scene but sustained injuries in the process and was subsequently apprehended by the authorities.

Inter-State Smuggling Network Uncovered

Police investigations have revealed that the gang was sourcing liquor from Haryana and smuggling it into Gujarat, where it was being supplied to bootleggers operating in and around Vadodara. This inter-state smuggling operation highlights the ongoing challenges in enforcing prohibition laws in the region.

Similar Operations and Expanded Investigation

This raid follows a similar operation conducted by the SMC last month in the Jawaharnagar area, where liquor worth lakhs of rupees was seized. In connection with the Nandesari case, police have declared ten additional persons as wanted, indicating the scale of the smuggling network.

Legal Action Under Prohibition Act

An offence has been registered under the Prohibition Act at the Nandesari police station, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire supply chain. The SMC's continued vigilance demonstrates the state's commitment to curbing illegal liquor activities and enforcing strict prohibition measures.
