Retired Gujarat Police Inspector Dies by Suicide in Ahmedabad; Family Members Booked
In a tragic incident in Ahmedabad, a 64-year-old retired police inspector, Jayanti Parmar, was discovered deceased inside a parked vehicle in the Chandlodia area on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations indicate that he ingested a poisonous substance, leading to his death. The Sola police have swiftly registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife Kailas Parmar, younger son Manoj Parmar, and sister-in-law Usha, based on a formal complaint lodged by his brother, Naresh Parmar.
Handwritten Note Reveals Allegations of Neglect and Abuse
During a thorough search of the scene, authorities uncovered a handwritten note near Jayanti Parmar's bedding, which is suspected to be a suicide letter. This poignant document details harrowing allegations, stating that Kailas Parmar repeatedly denied him food, forcing him to seek meals at his brother Naresh's residence. The note paints a grim picture of domestic strife and emotional torment.
Background and Escalating Family Disputes
Jayanti Parmar, who retired from police service in 2020, had been residing with his family in Pethapur, located in the Gandhinagar district. According to the complaint filed by Naresh Parmar, the initial two years post-retirement were relatively peaceful, but tensions began to escalate significantly in 2022. The FIR alleges that the three accused subjected Jayanti to persistent harassment, including verbal abuse, neglect, and incessant demands for his pension funds.
Naresh further claimed that his brother was frequently instructed to vacate the family home and was deprived of proper care, compelling him to take refuge at Naresh's Chandlodia residence for extended durations. A specific incident in 2022 involved a dispute over the purchase of gold jewellery between Jayanti and Kailas, during which Manoj and Usha allegedly sided with Kailas, exacerbating the conflict.
Pattern of Alleged Harassment and Violence
The complaint outlines a disturbing pattern of behavior, with the accused routinely pressuring Jayanti to surrender his pension and subjecting him to public humiliation before forcibly ejecting him from the house. Kailas is accused of not only denying him food on multiple occasions but also questioning his character and physically assaulting him. Additionally, Manoj is alleged to have returned home under the influence of alcohol and attempted to assault Jayanti, while Usha is said to have instigated disputes, with Kailas supporting these actions.
Repeated Attempts to Escape and Final Tragic Events
Police reports indicate that Jayanti Parmar had relocated to his brother's home several times in the past due to the alleged harassment. Approximately a week before the incident, his elder son Rajni Parmar and a relative brought him back to the Pethapur residence. However, the complaint asserts that the harassment recommenced shortly thereafter.
On March 18, Jayanti contacted his brother, reporting renewed disputes and threats at home. The following day, he departed from his residence once again and returned to Chandlodia to stay with Naresh. Tragically, on Thursday morning, Naresh discovered Jayanti missing from the house, with his mobile phone unreachable. Later, around 11:25 AM, the deceased was found lifeless inside a vehicle parked on a road between Kumkum Party Plot and Chikuwadi in Chandlodia.
This case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting issues of elder abuse and domestic conflict. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking suicide.
