POCSO Accused Escapes Police Custody at Vadodara Court Premises
In a startling incident at the Vadodara district court premises on Monday, a man accused under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act managed to escape from police custody. The escape has raised serious concerns about security protocols and law enforcement vigilance in handling high-risk cases.
Details of the Escape
The accused, identified as Dinesh Rokade, a resident of Sayajigunj in Vadodara, was brought to the court in Diwalipura for a scheduled hearing. According to police reports, Rokade, who had been booked in 2020 and was lodged in jail, requested permission to use the bathroom while under escort. Seizing the opportunity, he distracted the escorting personnel and fled the scene, evading capture in a bold and calculated move.
Police Response and Manhunt
Immediately following the escape, the Vadodara police launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend Rokade. Authorities are combing the area and have alerted neighboring jurisdictions to tighten security checks. The incident has prompted an internal review of custody procedures, with officials emphasizing the need for enhanced vigilance during court transfers, especially for individuals facing serious charges like those under the POCSO Act.
This escape underscores the challenges in managing accused persons in sensitive cases and highlights potential gaps in security measures. The police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in Rokade's capture, as the search continues to intensify across the region.
