Teen Driver's Reckless SUV Crash Severely Injures Woman in Navi Mumbai Residential Area
A horrifying road accident in the residential neighborhood of CBD-Belapur in Navi Mumbai left a 35-year-old married woman with severe injuries after a speeding SUV struck her from behind, dragged her approximately 50 meters along the street, and subsequently crashed into six parked vehicles. The incident, which occurred near the pavement in Artist Village, Sector-8, on Friday around 5:30 PM, was captured on CCTV surveillance cameras, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
Victim Rushed to Hospital During Golden Hour, Life Saved
As locals witnessed the terrifying scene, they immediately rushed the injured woman to the nearest medical facility, MGM Hospital in CBD-Belapur, within the critical golden hour period. Prompt medical intervention proved lifesaving, and the victim, identified as Mohini Shinde, is now reported to be conscious and recuperating from her injuries. Shinde, who resides in a slum pocket near Artist Village, works as a housemaid in various flats throughout the locality to support her family.
The medical examination revealed she sustained severe head injuries along with significant bruises on her face and near her knees. Given that she comes from an economically disadvantaged background and faces potentially high treatment costs, she is receiving care at MGM Hospital, which offers charitable treatment options for such cases.
Police Register FIR Against Teen Driver and Accomplice
Acting on a formal complaint filed by Archies Sawant (32), a local resident whose sports bike was among the damaged vehicles, the CBD-Belapur police station registered a First Information Report under multiple legal provisions. The accused SUV driver, identified as Vikram Gangadhar Kamble (19), faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for reckless or negligent driving that endangered human life and safety, mischief causing property damage, and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving.
"Both Vikram and Akash were reeking of alcohol when we arrived, so local residents had already detained them at the accident spot," stated Arun Pawar, Senior Inspector of CBD-Belapur police station. "Their medical tests were conducted at NMMC Hospital in Nerul. While the report for SUV chauffeur Akash confirmed alcohol consumption, we are awaiting Vikram's results. Once confirmed, we will invoke Section 185 of the MV Act for drunk driving."
Multiple Vehicles Damaged in Chaotic Crash Sequence
The out-of-control SUV caused substantial property damage during the chaotic incident, crashing into six vehicles parked along the roadside. The damaged vehicles included:
- Four cars
- One auto rickshaw
- One sports bike
Vikram was accompanied by his distant relative, Akash Chandrakant Kamble (26), who works as a private chauffeur for the SUV owner. Both individuals have been named as accused in the case and were served with a formal notice under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. This notice directs them to cooperate fully with police investigations whenever summoned to the station for questioning and throughout any subsequent court proceedings.
The incident has raised serious concerns about road safety in residential areas and highlights the dangers of reckless driving, particularly when combined with suspected alcohol consumption. Police continue their investigation while the victim continues her recovery in hospital.
