In a swift police operation, a former security guard was arrested on Friday for a brazen knifepoint assault and robbery at the Andheri (East) residence of a 22-year-old college student. The incident, which occurred a day prior, sent shockwaves through the locality.
The Terrifying Ordeal
The victim, a young woman, was alone at her home when the accused arrived posing as a delivery person. Upon opening the door, she was confronted by a masked man who forced his way inside. The assailant, identified as Anil Yadav, threatened her with a knife and demanded money.
Fearing for her life, the student handed over Rs 2,000 that she had in her possession. However, the attack did not end with the robbery. The accused gagged the victim, attempted to strangle her, and physically assaulted her before fleeing the scene. The traumatized young woman was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where she is currently recuperating.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
The MIDC police, acting promptly on the complaint, launched a major investigation under the supervision of DCP Datta Nalawade and Senior Inspector Ravindra Wani. Four dedicated police teams were formed to track down the perpetrator.
A crucial breakthrough came from CCTV footage, which captured a masked man entering the society premises in an autorickshaw. Following this lead, the teams worked meticulously to trace the individual. They eventually obtained the phone number of the accused, which led them directly to Anil Yadav.
Shocking Revelation of the Accused
The investigation uncovered a disturbing detail: Anil Yadav had previously worked as a security guard in the very same building where the victim resided. This inside knowledge of the society's layout and routines is believed to have facilitated the crime.
His arrest on Friday brought a sense of relief to the community and demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated police work. The case highlights serious concerns about safety in residential complexes and the vetting of personnel employed in security-sensitive roles.
