Mirzapur Police Apprehend Four Suspects in Dramatic Forest Encounter
In a significant crackdown on illicit liquor trade, the Ahraura police station in Mirzapur district successfully arrested four individuals involved in liquor theft following a tense encounter near the Vanasthali forest on Sonbhadra road. The incident unfolded late on Wednesday night, culminating in the capture of the suspects after a brief exchange of fire.
Encounter Leads to Injuries and Arrests
Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik provided details on Thursday, revealing that two of the criminals, identified as Karan Bind and Ganga Ram Bind, sustained bullet injuries to their legs during the confrontation. Police officers acted swiftly, recovering two pistols, multiple cartridges, a pickup vehicle, and a substantial haul of contraband.
The seized items included 36 crates containing an impressive 1,595 packs of country liquor, along with Rs 68,100 in cash. Immediately after the encounter, the injured suspects were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, ensuring their condition was stabilized before further proceedings.
Interrogation Uncovers Additional Accomplices
During intensive interrogation, the arrested individuals divulged the names of their aides, leading to the subsequent apprehension of Aryan Yadav and Rambharose Sahani. A search of their car yielded an additional 4 crates containing 180 packets of country liquor and Rs 27,200 in cash, further solidifying the case against the group.
The suspects confessed to recently breaking into a country liquor shop located in Sonpur village, where they stole both liquor and cash. Their plan was to transport the stolen goods to Sonbhadra using the pickup van and car, intending to sell the illicit items for profit. This revelation highlights a coordinated effort to exploit local businesses for illegal gain.
Police Action and Recovery Details
The police operation was marked by meticulous recovery efforts, with officers securing all evidence from the scene. The total recovery now stands at 40 crates with 1,775 packs of country liquor and Rs 95,300 in cash, alongside the firearms and vehicles. This seizure represents a major blow to the illegal liquor distribution network in the region.
