Mangaluru Police Crack Down on Illegal Cattle Transportation Network
In a significant enforcement action, the Bajpe police in Mangaluru successfully dismantled an illegal cattle transportation racket on Wednesday, leading to the rescue of four cattle and the seizure of property valued at approximately Rs 8.4 lakh. The operation, which targeted cruel and unlawful practices, underscores the authorities' commitment to upholding animal welfare and legal standards in the region.
Swift Police Action Based on Tip-Off
Acting on a credible tip-off regarding the inhumane transportation of cattle in a sports utility vehicle (SUV), a dedicated police team swiftly mobilized to investigate. The raid was conducted at a location in Shastavu, situated within Badaga Yedapadavu village in Mangaluru taluk. This proactive response highlights the effectiveness of community cooperation in combating illegal activities.
Key Seizures and Evidence Collected
During the raid, the accused individuals fled the scene, abandoning both the vehicle and the animals. Police officials seized the SUV, four cattle, a sword, and an iron rod as crucial evidence. These items, with a total estimated worth of Rs 8.4 lakh, are now under police custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the racket's operations.
Legal Framework and Case Registration
A formal case has been registered at the Bajpe police station under multiple legal provisions to ensure comprehensive prosecution. The charges include relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the Motor Vehicles Act, and the Arms Act of 1959. This multi-faceted legal approach aims to address the various violations associated with the illegal transport and mistreatment of animals.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Following an intensive investigation, police arrested two suspects on Thursday. The individuals have been identified as Nissar, also known as Nisaruddin or Parivala Nisar, aged 28, from Permude, and Mohammed Jamaluddin, aged 24, from Permanki. Both were presented before a court for judicial proceedings. Additionally, the city police commissioner has announced the formation of a special team tasked with tracing and apprehending the remaining absconding suspects involved in this illicit network.

The successful operation was executed under the expert guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Srikanth and Police Inspector Balakrishna. It was led by Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Latha, who coordinated efforts with other staff members to ensure a thorough and effective raid.
