Details of the Theft and Complaint
The case came to light when Suresh, a 46-year-old driver from Kadaba, filed a formal complaint. According to his statement, it was his routine practice to park the ambulance he drove near the Gundya check post every night, lock it, and return home.
On the night of December 19, he followed the same routine. However, considering the possibility of an emergency call and for the convenience of an alternate driver, he made the fateful decision to leave the key inside the vehicle.
The next morning, when Suresh returned, he was met with an empty space. The ambulance was nowhere to be found, prompting him to immediately report the theft to the authorities.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Acting on the complaint, the Uppinangady Police Station registered a case under the relevant sections of the law, specifically Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation led the police to Hassan district. With the crucial cooperation of the Hassan District Police, the authorities tracked down and secured the accused on December 20.
The arrested individual has been identified as Shodan, a 22-year-old resident of Karkala in Udupi district. Following his interrogation, the police were able to locate and recover the stolen ambulance.
The accused was subsequently produced before the court, marking a quick resolution to the case that relied on inter-district police coordination.
This incident highlights the risks associated with leaving keys in vehicles, even for operational conveniences like emergency medical services. The prompt police action ensured the vital ambulance was returned to service.
