Man arrested for rape, murder of girlfriend in Jharkhand

In a shocking incident from Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, a 20-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged rape and murder of his 25-year-old girlfriend. The accused, identified as Pradhan Purty, who is already married, reportedly committed the brutal crime on December 29 after the victim began pressuring him to marry her.

A Calculated Crime in the Forest

According to police officials, the sequence of events is both chilling and calculated. Purty, who had been in a relationship with the woman for two years, lured her to the Jogidaru forest under the pretext of a meeting. There, he first sexually assaulted her and then strangled her to death. In a gruesome attempt to conceal her identity, he crushed her face with a stone and covered the body with leaves.

Investigation and Arrest

The victim's body was discovered in the forest a day later, on December 30. Once her identity was established, her father filed a formal First Information Report (FIR), setting the investigation in motion. Sub-divisional police officer Bahaman Tuti stated that the investigation revealed Purty was involved in an extra-marital relationship with the deceased.

"The man was brought in for questioning on Saturday and arrested the day after," Tuti said. The police investigation proved crucial, leading to the recovery of key evidence from the crime scene. This evidence included the deceased's mobile phone, her two-wheeler, and the blood-stained stone allegedly used in the crime.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Following his arrest, Pradhan Purty has been sent to jail. The case highlights a tragic outcome of a relationship turned violent, allegedly triggered by the victim's desire for marriage conflicting with the accused's existing marital status. The local police in West Singhbhum have handled the investigation, which led to a swift arrest based on the evidence gathered and statements recorded.

This incident has sent ripples through the local community in the Kolhan region, underscoring serious concerns about crimes against women. It serves as a grim reminder of the extreme violence that can stem from personal conflicts and deceit.
