Police in northwest Delhi have made an arrest in connection with the brutal murder of a labourer, whose body was discovered on a road last week. The incident, which followed a drunken altercation, has sent shockwaves through the Prem Nagar area.
Body Found on Mubarakpur Road
The case came to light on Friday when the Delhi Police received a PCR call about an unconscious and injured man lying on the main Mubarakpur Road in the Inder Enclave Phase-II locality. The victim was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased was identified as Mukesh Rai, a labourer hailing from Bihar's Banka district. Following standard procedure, a formal case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at the Prem Nagar police station.
Drinking Session Turns Deadly
Investigations by the police revealed a tragic sequence of events. On the night of the incident, Mukesh Rai was consuming alcohol with two associates at a building material stock site. As the drinking progressed and the men became intoxicated, a heated argument erupted between them.
The quarrel turned violent. A post-mortem examination indicated that the victim suffered blunt force injuries, leading investigators to believe he was fatally assaulted with a brick. After the attack, the two other labourers, identified as Munsi Rai and Vishu Rai, fled from the scene.
Police Crack Case with Tech and Intel
With the prime suspects missing, a special team was formed to track them down. DCP (Rohini) Rajeev Ranjan stated that the police utilized a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence to trace their movements.
"The team tracked their movement and found that they fled towards Bihar by train," DCP Ranjan explained. The suspects were subsequently located, brought back to Delhi, and subjected to intensive questioning.
The interrogation proved crucial. It was established that Munsi Rai was directly involved in the murder, leading to his arrest. The other associate, Vishu Rai, was found to have acted as an eyewitness who had initially tried to intervene and pacify the quarrel. However, in a state of panic after Mukesh collapsed, he fled the spot alongside the accused.
The arrest brings a measure of closure to a grim case of violence stemming from intoxication, highlighting the ongoing challenges of crime and public safety in urban areas.
