Maharashtra Father Allegedly Hangs Daughters Upside Down, 10-Year-Old Dies in Sangli

In a shocking incident in Maharashtra's Sangli district, a 10-year-old girl died after her father allegedly hung her upside down at their home and kept her in that position overnight, as confirmed by police on Friday. The accused, identified as farmer Dadu alias Nana Yamgar, has been apprehended and is facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Details of the Tragic Incident

The man reportedly tortured his two daughters—Rutuja, aged 10, and Anuja, aged 11—on suspicion that they had stolen money from a relative's house in Banpuri, Atpadi taluka. According to police officials, Yamgar hung both girls upside down by tying their hands and legs to an iron angle installed on a wall below the ceiling of their residence.

Family members, including Yamgar's father, attempted to intervene and rescue the girls, but he allegedly threatened them with a sickle, preventing any intervention. As a result, both sisters remained suspended in this painful position throughout the night. Police noted that even Rutuja's repeated pleas for water did not sway her father.

Aftermath and Police Response

In the morning, both girls were found unconscious and were brought down by family members. They were rushed to a government-run hospital, but Rutuja's condition deteriorated rapidly. She tragically died while being transported to a hospital in Pandharpur, located in Solapur district. Her elder sister, Anuja, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The matter came to light on Thursday after doctors at the hospital in Atpadi taluka informed the police about Rutuja's death. Following this alert, hospital authorities notified the police, leading to Yamgar's immediate custody. Police have indicated that the accused is suspected to be mentally unstable, though this is still under investigation.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation

A case has been registered against Yamgar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is actively underway to gather more evidence and understand the full circumstances of this horrific event. Authorities are working to ensure justice for the victims and their family.

This incident has sparked outrage and concern in the local community, highlighting issues of child abuse and mental health. Police are urging the public to report any similar cases promptly to prevent such tragedies in the future.
