Ludhiana Wedding Dance Floor Dispute Escalates into Violent Assault

A joyous pre-wedding celebration in Ludhiana's Indirapuri area took a horrifying turn on Tuesday when a seemingly minor disagreement over space on the dance floor erupted into a brutal, armed assault. The violent clash resulted in five members of a family being rushed to the hospital with injuries, casting a dark shadow over what was meant to be a festive occasion.

From Verbal Spat to Armed Attack

The incident began with a verbal altercation between two groups of guests at the function. According to the police complaint, the accused individuals, identified as Sukhdev Singh and his son Harman Singh, allegedly pushed the complainant's family off the dance floor deliberately. When 28-year-old Vinay of Tajpur Bet, who was attending the function for his wife's relative, objected to this behavior, the situation quickly deteriorated.

"When I objected, they started abusing us verbally," Vinay stated in his complaint. "Other guests present at the celebration intervened at that moment, leading the accused to leave the venue temporarily. However, they returned shortly after with a gang of approximately 20 armed accomplices, transforming the dispute into a violent confrontation."

Vicious Assault and Property Damage

The returning mob, armed with sharp-edged weapons, launched a vicious attack on Vinay and his family members. The victims, which included two women, sustained significant injuries from the assault. Not content with just attacking the individuals, the assailants also vandalized the host's home, destroying household property in a display of wanton destruction before fleeing the scene to avoid immediate apprehension.

The injured parties include Vinay himself (28), his wife, his father-in-law Harbilas Kumar, his mother-in-law, and another relative. All five required hospitalization for treatment of their wounds following the bloody encounter that has since shocked the local community.

Police Response and Legal Action

Graphic videos capturing the violent clash quickly went viral on various social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and prompting immediate action from Ludhiana police authorities. In response to the viral footage and the formal complaint, law enforcement officials registered a case at the Division Number 7 police station against 22 individuals involved in the incident.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-IV) Jashandeep Singh Gill confirmed that the brawl had occurred between two groups of relatives attending the pre-wedding function. The police have filed multiple serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused, including:

  • Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
  • Section 118: Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means
  • Section 191(3): Being a member of an armed assembly engaged in rioting
  • Section 324(4): Committing mischief and thereby causing damage

The swift registration of the case under these substantial charges reflects the seriousness with which authorities are treating this violent outbreak at what should have been a celebratory family gathering. The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the attack.
