Arrests Made and Vehicle Seized in Coordinated Police Action

Following the interception, authorities arrested two individuals connected to the smuggling racket. The police discovered a staggering 2,468 boxes of liquor bottles hidden within a multi-axle truck, which was also seized as part of the operation. The truck, estimated to be worth Rs 15 lakh, was impounded to prevent further illicit use.

The first arrest involved the truck driver, identified as Santosh Petkar, who was taken into custody at the scene. In a subsequent development, a police team was dispatched to Madhya Pradesh, where they apprehended Asim Abdulla Sheikh, a 60-year-old resident of Raghunath Pura in Devas district. Police investigations revealed that the truck belonged to Sheikh, linking him directly to the smuggling attempt.

Inspector Sushant Chavan of the Kolhapur LCB provided insights into the smuggling operation, stating, "The liquor was being smuggled through ghat areas to Malkapur, Karad and then via the highway to Madhya Pradesh." This route was strategically chosen to evade detection, highlighting the sophisticated nature of the illegal activity.

A formal case has been registered at the Shahuwadi police station, ensuring that legal proceedings are initiated against the accused. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover any additional links or individuals involved in this smuggling network, aiming to dismantle it completely.
