Khargone Police Crack Down on Drug Smuggling Ring, Arrest Three

In a significant operation, the Sanawad police station in Khargone district has arrested three individuals for their involvement in smuggling brown sugar and other contraband items, with the total value estimated at around Rs 4 lakh. The arrests were made following a vehicle check that led to a chase and subsequent apprehension of the suspects.

Police Intercept Suspects During Routine Check

According to Sanawad police station in-charge Dharmendra Yadav, the incident unfolded during a routine vehicle inspection near the Anaj Mandi area. Police officers intercepted two youths riding a motorcycle who attempted to flee the scene. After a brief pursuit, both individuals were successfully apprehended by the authorities.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Pawan Verma, aged 25 and a resident of Barwaha, and Moin Sheikh, also 25 and from Sanawad. A thorough search of their possessions resulted in the recovery of 12.65 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 1.25 lakh.

Interrogation Leads to Further Arrests and Seizures

During interrogation, Pawan Verma disclosed that the contraband was sourced from Amin Khan, also known as Maharaj, who resides in Ratlam. Acting on this information, a police team swiftly moved to Ratlam and arrested Amin, aged 30. From his possession, authorities seized two mobile phones with an estimated worth of around Rs 75,000.

Amin Khan revealed during questioning that he was procuring the brown sugar from Rajasthan, indicating a broader network involved in the drug trade. In addition to the drugs and mobile phones, police also confiscated the motorcycle used for transporting the illicit substances.

Legal Action and Criminal Histories

A formal case has been registered at the Sanawad police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation has uncovered that the suspects have prior criminal records:

  • Pawan Verma has four previous cases registered against him.
  • Amin Khan has three prior criminal cases on record.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Khargone police to combat drug smuggling in the region, with authorities continuing to investigate potential links to larger trafficking operations.
