Kanpur Newly-Wed Woman Found Dead, Husband Accused of Murder by Family

A tragic incident has unfolded in Kanpur where a 28-year-old newly-wed woman was found dead in her home, with her family accusing her husband of murder. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community as police investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

Discovery of the Body and Police Response

The body of Neelam Sahu was discovered on Monday evening after neighbors reported a foul smell emanating from her residence in the Gujaini police station area. Police officials promptly arrived at the scene and broke open the door, which was locked from inside, to recover the three-day-old body. The remains were immediately sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Gujaini police station in-charge Rajan Sharma confirmed, "The husband has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. The woman's family has accused him of murder. A formal report will be registered based on the written complaint, and appropriate legal action will be taken."

Family Allegations and Background of the Couple

Neelam Sahu's brother, Shubham Sahu, who resides in Barra Vishwa Bank H Block, provided crucial details about the case. He revealed that his sister had a love marriage with accountant Vinay Rathore, a resident of Varun Vihar, on February 22, 2025. The couple had known each other since childhood, having studied together for many years.

However, the relationship reportedly turned sour after marriage. Shubham alleged that Vinay began harassing Neelam, leading to domestic discord. In a shocking claim, he stated, "On Friday, after killing his sister, Vinay hung the body from a noose and left, saying he was going to get a house constructed in his ancestral village, Budhauli, in Sikandra, located in Kanpur Dehat."

Husband's Version of Events and Police Investigation

In contrast to the family's allegations, Vinay Rathore presented a different account to the police. He claimed that he had attempted to contact his wife multiple times on Saturday and Sunday, but her phone remained unanswered. Growing concerned, he sent a neighbor to check on her on Monday.

The neighbor reported back that the door was locked from inside and a strong stench was coming from the house, prompting immediate police involvement. This discrepancy between the husband's story and the family's accusations forms the core of the ongoing investigation.

Legal Proceedings and Community Impact

The case highlights serious concerns about domestic violence and marital disputes in the region. Police are meticulously examining all evidence, including the post-mortem report and witness statements, to establish the truth. The community has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling for swift justice and greater awareness about domestic safety.

As the investigation progresses, authorities emphasize that all aspects of the case will be thoroughly scrutinized. The tragic death of Neelam Sahu serves as a somber reminder of the need for vigilance and support systems to protect individuals in vulnerable domestic situations.
