Kanpur E-Rickshaw Driver Succumbs to Injuries After Brutal Tile Assault
In a tragic incident in Kanpur, a 25-year-old e-rickshaw driver named Jeetu passed away on Friday at LLR Hospital, nine days after he was allegedly attacked with tiles in the Juhi area. The assault occurred when Jeetu intervened to stop two youths from urinating in a public lane, leading to a fatal confrontation that has shocked the local community.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The deceased, Jeetu, resided in the Military Camp Colony under the jurisdiction of the Juhi police station. According to police reports, the altercation began on March 4 when Faheem, a local resident, was urinating in the lane. Jeetu's younger brother, Golu, objected to this act, prompting Faheem and another individual named Ansh, who were reportedly intoxicated, to abuse and attempt to assault Golu. Jeetu stepped in to defuse the situation, temporarily calming matters.
However, about two hours later, when Jeetu ventured outside, he was allegedly surrounded by Faheem and Ansh. In a violent attack, the accused struck Jeetu's head and face repeatedly with tiles, leaving him severely injured and collapsed on the road. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries after nine days of treatment.
Police Action and Family's Anguish
Based on the statement of Jeetu's sister, Sanjana, the Juhi police have registered a murder case against the accused, Faheem and Ansh. Juhi SHO KK Patel confirmed that Faheem has been arrested, while teams are actively searching for Ansh, who remains absconding. The swift police response aims to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide solace to the grieving family.
Jeetu is survived by his mother, Tirath Devi, elder brother Raja alias Kukku, sister Sanjana, and younger brother Golu. In an emotional statement, Raja recounted the events, highlighting how a simple objection to public urination escalated into a deadly assault. The family is devastated by the loss, calling for stricter enforcement against such public nuisances and violence.
Broader Implications and Community Concerns
This incident underscores the growing concerns over public safety and hygiene in urban areas. The use of violence in response to minor disputes, such as objecting to public urination, raises alarms about law and order. Local residents have expressed fear and demand increased police patrolling to prevent similar tragedies.
Authorities are urging the public to report such incidents promptly and cooperate with investigations. The case serves as a grim reminder of the need for community awareness and legal measures to curb anti-social behavior, ensuring that disputes are resolved peacefully without resorting to brutality.
