Uttarakhand Judicial Academy Hosts Major Colloquium on Combating Human Trafficking
A significant two-day judicial colloquium dedicated to addressing the critical issue of human trafficking was inaugurated on Saturday at the Uttarakhand Judicial and Legal Academy (UJALA) located in Bhowali, Nainital. This high-level event is strategically designed to fortify judicial response mechanisms and enhance coordination among various stakeholders in the relentless fight against this heinous crime.
Inauguration by Chief Justice and Broad Participation
The colloquium was formally inaugurated by the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta. In his opening address, Justice Gupta emphasized that the primary objective of this program is to significantly improve coordination, sensitivity, and the effectiveness of legal actions in cases pertaining to human trafficking. The event has successfully assembled a diverse and influential gathering of more than 150 participants.
This assembly includes the Chief Justice and several esteemed judges from the Uttarakhand High Court, the Additional Director General of Police, judicial officers representing various districts across the state, administrative officials, police officers, prosecution authorities, and representatives from numerous non-governmental organizations dedicated to social welfare and legal aid.
Comprehensive Agenda and Expert Discussions
Justice Gupta outlined that over the course of the two-day program, experts will engage in in-depth discussions covering a wide array of crucial topics. These discussions will focus on developing robust prevention strategies, ensuring effective victim rehabilitation, refining investigation procedures, and streamlining judicial processes to ensure swift and fair justice.
Participants are also set to receive practical and actionable inputs on several key areas. These include a thorough understanding of relevant legal provisions, advanced investigative methodologies, and comprehensive victim assistance mechanisms designed to support and protect those affected by trafficking.
Distinguished Attendees and Collaborative Spirit
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent judicial figures, underscoring its importance. Among the distinguished attendees were senior judge Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, UJALA supervising judge Justice Ravindra Maithani, Justice Alok Mehra, Justice Subhash Upadhyay, and Justice Siddharth Sah.
The gathering also included key administrative and organizational leaders such as Academy Director Pradeep Pant, Registrar General Yogesh Kumar Gupta, Nainital District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal, district judges from across Uttarakhand, and numerous officials from police departments and voluntary organizations. This collective participation highlights a strong, unified commitment to creating a more coordinated and effective framework to combat human trafficking through enhanced judicial and legal cooperation.
