Jalandhar Police Busts Inter-State Illegal Weapons Supply Racket, Two Arrested from Uttar Pradesh
In a significant crackdown, the Counter-Intelligence (CI) unit in Jalandhar has successfully dismantled an inter-state illegal weapons supply module, leading to the arrest of two individuals from Uttar Pradesh. The operation, conducted on Thursday, resulted in the seizure of ten 7.65 mm country-made pistols along with twenty magazines, marking a major blow to criminal networks operating across state lines.
Details of the Arrests and Seizures
The arrested accused have been identified as Dalesh Kumar, also known as Saurav Kumar or Nannu, a resident of Paindapur village in Aligarh, and Amit Chahar, hailing from Baseri Chahar village in Agra. According to police reports, the arrests were made in Mathura following sustained investigative efforts. Initially, five pistols and ten magazines were recovered from the car of Dalesh Kumar. Subsequently, based on his disclosures, an additional five pistols and ten magazines were seized from the Mathura-Palwal highway, bringing the total count to ten pistols and twenty magazines.
Link to Foreign-Based Criminals and Previous Incidents
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav revealed that the investigation uncovered connections to foreign criminals operating from Germany and the United States. The accused were allegedly acting on their behalf to supply weapons to criminal gangs in Punjab. This development comes almost a month after the arrest of two BKI operatives, Sukhwinder alias Sunny and Rawal, who were involved in placing grenades and an IED near Balachaur under the direction of a foreign-based handler, Jassi Kulam. Notably, the same IED was later used in a blast at Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh, highlighting the grave implications of such illegal activities.
Additional Criminal Activities and Legal Actions
DGP Yadav further disclosed that both accused were involved in procuring weapons and carrying out firing incidents for extortion purposes, including an incident at a travel agent’s residence in Garhshankar. An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act in Amritsar, underscoring the seriousness of the charges. The bust underscores the ongoing efforts by Punjab police to curb the flow of illegal arms and dismantle networks that threaten public safety and security.
