Jaipur Police Seize and Destroy Over 600kg of Adulterated Paneer
In a significant crackdown on food adulteration, Jaipur city police on Saturday seized and destroyed more than 600 kilograms of allegedly adulterated paneer in the Jawahar Nagar area. Officials confirmed that the paneer was being transported into the city for supply during the ongoing wedding and festive season, raising serious public health concerns.
Operation Details and Interception
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur East) Ranjeeta Sharma stated that the action was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the supply of adulterated dairy products within the city. Acting swiftly on this information, police intercepted a pickup vehicle near a dairy outlet in Jawahar Nagar.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered six large containers filled with paneer that were in the process of being unloaded. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 28-year-old Imran from Alwar district, was immediately detained for detailed questioning.
Supply Chain Investigation
During interrogation, Imran revealed crucial information about the supply chain. He informed police that the consignment originated from a dairy facility in Laxmangarh, Alwar, and was intended for delivery to a local shopkeeper named Ranveer Sharma. The paneer was meant for subsequent distribution throughout local markets, potentially reaching numerous consumers during the peak wedding season.
Testing and Confirmation of Adulteration
Following the interception, police promptly summoned a team from the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) office to the location. The officials collected multiple samples from the seized paneer for comprehensive laboratory testing.
Preliminary examination of these samples confirmed the presence of adulterants, validating the initial suspicions. In accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, approximately 634 kilograms of the contaminated paneer was subsequently destroyed at the site to prevent any public health risk.
Pattern of Similar Incidents
This enforcement action represents the third such operation conducted by Jaipur police during the month of March alone, indicating a concerning pattern of food adulteration in the region.
- On March 3, authorities destroyed approximately 250 kilograms of adulterated paneer at the same dairy outlet in Jawahar Nagar.
- In another incident on March 22, police seized substantial quantities of paneer, ghee, and cream from a pickup vehicle operating in the same area.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Officials have confirmed that further legal action is being pursued in accordance with established food safety regulations. The investigation continues to trace the complete supply network and identify all individuals involved in the distribution of adulterated dairy products.
This crackdown highlights the ongoing challenges in ensuring food safety standards, particularly during high-demand periods like wedding seasons when adulterated products may enter the market more frequently.
