Budaun Horror: Husband Allegedly Sells Wife for Rs 1,000, Two Men Gang-Rape Her
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Budaun district, a 28-year-old woman was brutally gang-raped by two men after her husband allegedly sold her to them for a mere Rs 1,000. The crime, which occurred in a village in Budaun recently, has led to the arrest of all three accused, including the victim's husband, as confirmed by police authorities on Wednesday.
Details of the Heinous Crime
According to the police complaint filed by the victim, her husband, who works as a daily wager, took her out on February 6 under the false pretext of processing documents for an LPG gas connection. During their journey, they encountered two men, and in a chilling turn of events, the husband allegedly struck a deal with them, handing over his wife in exchange for Rs 1,000.
The two men then forcibly took the woman to a secluded forest area, where they took turns to rape her. Despite the trauma and physical assault, the victim displayed immense courage and managed to escape from their clutches, eventually making her way back home.
Confrontation and Police Action
Upon returning home, the woman confronted her husband about the horrific ordeal. Shockingly, he allegedly admitted to selling her for money, citing financial desperation. Due to severe weakness and trauma from the assault, the victim was unable to report the crime to the police immediately.
She finally mustered the strength to file a formal complaint on February 8, leading to the registration of a case under charges of gang-rape and criminal conspiracy. Speaking on the matter, SP (Rural) Budaun Hridesh Kumar stated, "We had arrested the husband the same day. A probe is on to investigate all aspects of this case." The two other accused were also apprehended shortly after, ensuring swift police action in response to the complaint.
Broader Implications and Community Response
This incident has highlighted severe issues of gender-based violence and exploitation in the region, raising concerns about the safety and rights of women in rural areas. The local community and authorities are now calling for stricter enforcement of laws and better support systems for victims of such crimes.
As the investigation continues, this case serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by many women and the urgent need for societal and legal reforms to prevent such atrocities in the future.
