Haryana STF Secures Deportation and Arrest of Notorious Gangster Sombir from USA
In a significant law enforcement breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana successfully arrested dreaded gangster Sombir, also known as Motta, on Wednesday after securing his deportation from the United States of America. This operation marks a critical step in curbing organized crime in the region.
Details of the Arrest and Criminal Background
Sombir, aged 39, is the brother of another notorious gangster, Anil Chhipi, and has been implicated in a staggering 27 criminal cases. These include charges of murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, and extortion across multiple districts such as Rohtak, Sonipat, Jhajjar, New Delhi, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh. A resident of Karor in Rohtak, he had managed to escape to the USA using a passport fraudulently obtained with an address in Noida.
Gang Affiliations and Criminal History
Investigations reveal that Sombir has strong ties with infamous criminal networks, including the Lawrence Bishnoi and Kala Jathedi Gangs. His entry into the world of crime reportedly stemmed from personal rivalries. Notably, he was involved in the murder of a gang member from the Mainpal Badli Gang in Bhondsi Jail, Gurugram, back in 2014. The STF's efforts included securing a lookout circular and an open-end warrant to facilitate his capture, with Interpol issuing a Red Corner Notice that ultimately led to his arrest.
Deportation Milestones and Travel Fraud
This arrest represents the 10th major deportation since 2025 and the 3rd specifically from the USA. Previous deportees include Lakhwinder Lakha from the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, deported on October 25, 2025, and Aman Bhainswal, deported on January 7, 2026. In terms of travel fraud, Sombir fled India on January 3, 2024, from Mumbai Airport to Bangkok using a fraudulently acquired passport. An FIR was registered in Rohtak regarding this, and his passport was revoked on August 14, 2024, following a request from the STF.
Implications and Future Actions
An STF official emphasized that Sombir's arrest is expected to lead to more crucial arrests of gangsters and significantly disrupt their criminal activities. This development underscores the ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to combat organized crime through international cooperation and robust investigative measures.
