Tragic Gurgaon Accident Claims Lives of Grandfather and Two Grandsons
A devastating road accident in Gurgaon's Pataudi area has resulted in the tragic deaths of a 60-year-old man and his two young grandsons. The incident occurred on Friday night when a Mahindra Thar SUV, traveling at approximately 80 kilometers per hour, plowed into the victims on a poorly lit stretch of the Khor-Lokra road.
Victims Identified as Family Visiting from Rajasthan
The deceased have been identified as Subhash (60), a daily wage laborer from Khor village, and his grandsons Ishant (10) and Zaid Khan (8). The two boys had traveled from Alwar, Rajasthan, to spend their school holidays with their grandfather, making the tragedy particularly heartbreaking for the family.
According to police reports, the accident took place around 10 PM as the trio was returning home after visiting relatives. Subhash's brother, Saleem (42), filed the police complaint stating that the victims had just left his house in Lokra when the black Thar struck them from behind with tremendous force.
CCTV Footage Reveals Horrific Sequence of Events
Security camera footage from the area captured the entire incident. The video shows Subhash briefly stopping by the roadside while one of the boys stepped aside momentarily. As the grandfather gathered both children and stood with them at the road's edge, the approaching vehicle failed to negotiate a turn and slammed directly into them at high speed.
The impact was so severe that all three victims were thrown off the road, sustaining critical injuries and bleeding profusely. The SUV eventually came to a stop after crashing into a tree on an unmetalled patch alongside the roadway.
Driver's Attempt to Flee and Subsequent Arrest
The CCTV footage further revealed disturbing details about the driver's behavior after the collision. The video shows the driver struggling to reverse the damaged vehicle, apparently attempting to flee the scene. After several unsuccessful attempts to move the Thar, he switched off the engine, exited the vehicle, lingered briefly at the accident site, and then walked away into the darkness, abandoning the SUV with its victims.
Local residents who heard the crash rushed to help the victims and immediately informed family members. The injured were transported to a nearby government hospital, where doctors declared all three dead upon arrival.
Family Devastated by Triple Tragedy
The tragedy has left the family shattered and struggling to cope with their loss. "We are completely devastated," said family member Sameer. "Losing three family members in a single night, especially two innocent children, is something we cannot come to terms with. It was extremely difficult for us to inform their parents in Alwar. They reached here the next day and are completely heartbroken. The couple also has a four-year-old son who has now lost his brothers."
Police teams on night patrol reached the accident spot soon after the incident, secured the vehicle, and arranged for the bodies to be shifted for autopsy procedures.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
The driver, identified as Deepanshu (25), a resident of Goriawas village in Pataudi who works with an IT firm in Gurgaon, has been arrested by police. Authorities have seized the Mahindra Thar involved in the accident and initiated legal proceedings against the accused.
Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan confirmed, "We have taken the Thar into custody and are proceeding in keeping with the law." An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
The tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on poorly lit stretches and the devastating consequences of speeding vehicles, particularly in residential and rural areas where pedestrians frequently share road space with motorized traffic.
