Ghaziabad Teen Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Scrap Dealer After Drunken Altercation
In a tragic incident in Ghaziabad, an 18-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old scrap dealer to death following a drunken altercation in the Vijay Nagar area. Police officials confirmed the arrest on Monday, highlighting the role of CCTV footage and local intelligence in solving the case.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
The accused, identified as Piyush, a resident of Delhi, was apprehended after a thorough investigation led by Sachin Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station. The incident occurred on March 16, when police received information about a man with stab injuries. The victim, later identified as Monu, a native of Bulandshahr who lived in Vijay Nagar with his family and worked as a scrap dealer, was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was subsequently referred to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries on March 18.
Initially, a complaint was filed against two persons, but their involvement could not be established during the investigation. CCTV footage played a crucial role in the probe, showing the victim with the accused, although the face was not clearly visible. With the help of manual inputs from local sources, police were able to identify and arrest Piyush.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Crime
During interrogation, Piyush revealed that he had come from Delhi to his maternal grandparents' house in Vijay Nagar. Under the influence of alcohol, he accidentally collided with Monu on the road, sparking an argument. In a fit of rage, Piyush allegedly stabbed Monu multiple times. After the attack, he fled the scene with his associate, Aman alias Kalu, by crossing nearby railway tracks. Police later found Piyush near a mobile tower at Dhobi Ghat, where he was allegedly waiting for an opportunity to escape, and apprehended him.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's father, Naresh, police registered a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities stated that there was no clear intent to murder, indicating the charge reflects the circumstances of the altercation rather than premeditated violence.
This incident underscores the dangers of alcohol-fueled conflicts and the importance of community cooperation in police investigations. The swift action by Ghaziabad police, leveraging technology and local insights, has brought a measure of justice in this heartbreaking case.
