Ambedkarnagar Court Delivers Life Sentences in 2021 Murder Case
A local court in Ambedkarnagar district has handed down life imprisonment sentences to four individuals convicted in connection with a brutal 2021 murder and attempted murder case that occurred in Achhati village under the jurisdiction of the Alapur police station.
Court Judgment and Convictions
The judgment was delivered on Friday evening by the court of Additional District Judge (ADJ-I) Rambilas Singh. The court convicted Sadiq alias Kallu, Israr Khan, Nadeem Khan, and Aleem under charges of IPC 302 (murder) and IPC 307 (attempt to murder), based on witness testimonies and evidence presented during the trial.
In addition to the life sentences, the court imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of the convicts. The court acquitted six other accused individuals—Yusuf Khan, Irshad, Israel, Mohammad Ahmad, Belal, and Sidra Fatima—due to a lack of sufficient evidence to secure convictions.
Details of the 2021 Incident
According to prosecution accounts, the incident unfolded on the evening of December 3, 2021. A group of accused individuals, armed with knives, axes, and other sharp weapons, launched a violent attack on the house of Praveen Lata Maurya in Achhati village.
During the assault, Ramsakal Maurya, the husband of Praveen Lata Maurya, sustained critical injuries after being struck on the head with sharp weapons. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical treatment. Their sons, Ranvijay and Digvijay, also suffered serious injuries, including fractures and head trauma.
The attackers further vandalized vehicles parked in the garage, including a jeep, a tractor, and an SUV. They also assaulted the family's driver, Vinay Yadav alias Gore, inflicting severe head injuries during the chaotic episode.
Background and Investigation Findings
The case was initially registered as attempted murder and assault, but charges were upgraded to murder following Ramsakal Maurya's death. Police subsequently filed a chargesheet against the accused after a thorough investigation.
Investigations revealed that the violence stemmed from a dispute approximately 10 days prior to the incident. An argument broke out between the deceased's son Ranvijay and accused Sadiq over an issue related to an orchestra event, during which Sadiq allegedly issued death threats.
On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly regrouped and carried out a planned attack on the Maurya family, leading to the tragic outcomes documented in court.
Victim Family's Response
Praveen Lata Maurya, the victim's wife, expressed relief following the court's decision, stating that justice had been served. "I had complete faith in the judiciary. This decision has brought peace to our hearts," she said, reflecting on the emotional toll of the case.
The sentencing marks a significant conclusion to a case that has drawn attention to rural violence and judicial processes in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the legal system's role in addressing such crimes.
