Elderly Couple Brutally Murdered in East Delhi Residence

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community, an elderly couple was found murdered inside their home in East Delhi's Shahdara district. The grim discovery was made on Sunday, with police identifying the victims as Virender Kumar Bansal, a 75-year-old retired teacher, and his 65-year-old wife, Parvesh Bansal.

Senior police officers confirmed that the bodies were discovered at their residence in Mansarovar Park's Ram Nagar Extension. While the precise motive behind the heinous crime remains unclear, investigators are exploring multiple angles, including the possibility of robbery and personal enmity.

Sequence of Events and Son's Discovery

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday. The couple's son, Vaibhav Bansal (28), who works as a gym trainer in Ghonda, reportedly left the house around 5 pm for his workplace. At that time, his parents were at home. Vaibhav informed the police that he was at the gym until approximately 9 pm before leaving to attend a party.

He returned home around midnight to find the main door centrally locked from inside. Upon entering, he was met with a horrifying scene. He found his mother, Parvesh, lying unconscious in one room, and his father, Virender, dead in another room. His cries for help alerted neighbours, who rushed upstairs and advised him to immediately inform the police.

Police Investigation and Possible Motives

Officers from the local police station, along with teams from the Crime Branch and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), swiftly reached the spot to collect evidence. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam stated that the investigation is proceeding from all possible angles.

Preliminary findings suggest that the assailant's entry into the house appeared to be "friendly," indicating the perpetrator might have been known to the couple. A key clue is a CCTV footage that captured an unidentified person wearing a mask, gloves, and a hoodie near the scene. Police believe this individual seemed familiar with the layout of the house.

Robbery has emerged as a strong motive after investigators noted that the jewellery Parvesh Bansal was wearing was missing. However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of a personal dispute leading to the double murder. No murder weapon has been recovered from the crime scene so far.

"Robbery cannot be ruled out. We are investigating the case from all possible angles, including personal rivalry. The team has found some clues, and we hope to solve the case soon," DCP Gautam told reporters.

Victims' Profile and Family Details

Virender Kumar Bansal, originally from Khekra in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district, had retired about 15 years ago after serving as a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) for Science at a government school in Jyoti Nagar. His wife, Parvesh, was a homemaker. The couple, described by neighbours as religious and fond of visiting temples, were reportedly dealing with health issues prior to their death.

The Bansals have two children. Their daughter, Ekta Bansal, is a primary school teacher living with her husband in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Their son, Vaibhav, besides being a gym trainer, is also involved in stock market trading. Police are questioning all family members, neighbours, and acquaintances to map the couple's recent interactions and identify potential suspects.

Nature of Injuries and Ongoing Probe

Initial forensic observations indicate that Parvesh Bansal may have been strangled. Her husband, Virender, sustained severe injuries to his head and face, likely caused by a heavy object. The police have verified that the timeline provided by the son so far matches the evidence gathered.

The investigation remains active and wide-ranging. Authorities are meticulously analysing the CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and statements to piece together the events that led to this brutal crime. The community in Ram Nagar Extension is in a state of shock and fear following the murder of the well-regarded elderly couple.
