Tragic Accident in Unnao Claims Two Lives
A devastating road accident occurred in Unnao district on Sunday evening, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The incident took place in Nevalganj village, Hasanganj, at approximately 6 pm, when a gravel-laden dumper overturned onto a roadside chaat cart.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The dumper was traveling on the Mohan-Lucknow road when it lost control and toppled onto the small food stall. According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, three individuals standing near the vendor's cart were buried under the heavy load of gravel, while one person became trapped beneath the vehicle itself.
Rescue operations commenced immediately as villagers heard screams and alerted authorities. Police arrived at the scene and called for a bulldozer to help remove the substantial amount of gravel that had covered the victims.
Victims and Rescue Efforts
After approximately one hour of intense rescue work, all four individuals were extracted from the wreckage. Tragically, two of them were pronounced dead at the Community Health Centre (CHC). The deceased have been identified as:
- Ashok (35), son of Radheshyam
- Suraj (14), son of Rajkumar
Both were residents of Nevalganj village.
The injured survivors included the shop owner, Bauwa, who sustained minor injuries, and customer Saleem (35), son of Waheed. Saleem's condition was critical, prompting medical personnel to refer him to the Trauma Centre in Lucknow for specialized treatment. Bauwa received medical attention at the CHC before being discharged to return home.
Driver Negligence and Arrest
Preliminary investigations point to driver negligence as the primary cause of the accident. The dumper driver, identified as Kapil from the same village, allegedly lost control of the vehicle. Villagers reported that Kapil appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
SHO Sharad Kumar confirmed that the driver has been taken into police custody. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic event.
Background of the Affected
The chaat cart owner, Bauwa, is a resident of Nevalganj village who lived in a settlement along the Lucknow-Bangarmau road and operated his small food business at the location where the accident occurred. The Sunday evening timing meant the cart was likely serving customers when the dumper overturned, catching those nearby completely by surprise.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and vehicle regulation in the region, particularly regarding heavy transport vehicles operating on busy roads through populated areas.
