Dehradun Police Make Swift Arrests in Heinous Gang Rape Case

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Dehradun, police have taken decisive action by arresting a 19-year-old man and apprehending two 15-year-old boys for their alleged involvement in the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl. The crime occurred on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, with authorities confirming the details on Saturday.

Disturbing Details of the Crime Emerge

According to Circle Officer (Sadar) Ankit Kandari, the case came to light when the victim's mother, who works at a local dry cleaning shop, filed a formal complaint on Friday evening. The investigation revealed a premeditated and brutal sequence of events.

The girl had been sent out on Thursday evening to deliver goods from the shop to customers in the area, explained Kandari. During this time, one of the juveniles, who was known to the victim as a friend, called her and asked her to meet near a school under the pretext of discussing something important.

When the unsuspecting girl arrived at the designated spot, she found the other two accused present as well. The trio then allegedly forced her onto a two-wheeler and took her to a nearby forest area.

Sedative-Laced Drink and Night-Long Assault

At the forest location, the accused consumed alcohol and offered the victim a cold drink that had been laced with sedatives. After she lost consciousness from the drugged beverage, the three took turns raping her throughout the night.

In the morning, they sent her home in an e-rickshaw, stated Kandari. She collapsed upon reaching home and only regained consciousness several hours later, at which point she narrated the horrific ordeal to her mother.

Legal Action and Arrests

The mother immediately lodged a formal complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The charges include:

  • Section 5(g) for gang-penetrative sexual assault against a child
  • Section 6 for aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO Act
  • BNS sections 123 for causing hurt by means of sedatives or poison
  • BNS section 137(2) for kidnapping
  • BNS section 70(2) for gang rape

A dedicated police team was formed on Friday night to apprehend the accused. The 19-year-old adult accused was produced before the local court, while the two juveniles were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. They have been sent to jail and a juvenile correctional facility respectively.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges of juvenile crime and sexual violence in urban areas, with authorities emphasizing their commitment to swift justice under the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act and the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
