A tragic incident in Thiruvananthapuram has raised serious suspicions of foul play after a four-year-old boy was brought dead to a private hospital. The Kazhakoottam Police have taken the child's mother and her male friend into custody for intense interrogation.
Chilling Discovery at Private Hospital
The deceased child has been identified as Gildhar, son of Munni Begum, a migrant worker from West Bengal. The family was staying at a lodge in the Kazhakoottam area. Around 6 PM, the child was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Hospital sources revealed a disturbing detail: the child's body was already cold when he was brought in. Initially, Munni Begum told doctors that she had fed Gildhar lunch and put him to sleep in the afternoon. She claimed she found him motionless when she checked in the evening, prompting the rush to the hospital.
Ligature Marks Point to Possible Strangulation
However, a detailed medical examination uncovered shocking evidence that contradicted the mother's account. Doctors reportedly found two distinct ligature marks around the child's neck. The preliminary medical opinion suggests these marks were likely caused by the tightening of a rope, cloth, or a similar object.
Finding the circumstances highly suspicious, the attending doctor immediately alerted the Kazhakoottam Police. This crucial intervention set the investigation in motion.
Police Investigation and Custody
Acting swiftly on the information, the police took Munni Begum and her friend, Tanbeer Alath, into custody for detailed questioning. During initial interrogation, both individuals reportedly told the police they were unaware of how the child died.
Police officers stated that only a thorough interrogation would reveal the truth behind Gildhar's untimely death. The child's body was expected to be shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital mortuary for a formal postmortem examination, which will provide crucial forensic evidence.
Investigators have pieced together some background. Munni arrived at the lodge approximately two weeks ago with Gildhar and her younger son, who is around 18 months old. It was also revealed that the family had stayed at the same lodge about two months prior.
Police suspect that Munni moved to Kazhakoottam with her children following a dispute with her husband while they were living in Aluva. No formal arrests have been recorded yet. Authorities confirmed that a case will be registered after detailed questioning, and arrests will follow if the investigation findings warrant it.
