Tragic Accident in Buxar Claims Four Lives on Maghi Purnima Morning

A devastating road accident in Buxar district resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a serving SSB jawan, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred on the four-lane highway near Chanda village, under the jurisdiction of the Naya Bhojpur police station area, casting a pall of grief over the region.

Victims Identified in Fatal Collision

The deceased have been identified as Sujit Kumar Pandey, an SSB jawan, and Omkar Pandey, both residents of Kritsagar village under the Krishna brahm police station area. The other victims are Girija Devi from Nenua village in Dumraon and Manju Devi from Bharkhara village in Brahmapur. All four were traveling together in a car, heading to Ramrekha Ghat in Buxar for a holy dip in the Ganga river on the auspicious occasion of Maghi Purnima, and to distribute wedding invitations.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Accident

According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded due to dense fog that severely reduced visibility on the highway. The car first collided with a truck near Chanda village. Moments later, in a horrifying turn of events, another speeding truck rammed into the car from behind, causing a powerful double collision. The impact was so intense that the car was completely mangled, leading to the immediate death of all four occupants.

Eyewitness Accounts and Police Response

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that despite the thick fog, vehicles were moving at high speeds, contributing to the accident. The driver of the car allegedly failed to judge the distance accurately due to the poor visibility. Upon hearing the crash, local villagers rushed to the spot and promptly informed the police. The Naya Bhojpur police quickly arrived and initiated rescue operations. A heavy machine was deployed to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage, which were subsequently sent to a government hospital for postmortem examinations.

Ongoing Investigation and Safety Concerns

Naya Bhojpur SHO, Chandan Kumar, stated that efforts are underway to trace the unidentified vehicle involved in the collision. This incident highlights critical road safety issues, particularly during foggy conditions, and raises concerns about adherence to speed limits and visibility precautions on highways. The community mourns the loss, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
