Bulandshahr Father Allegedly Beats 12-Year-Old Daughter to Death Over Stolen Candies
In a shocking incident in Bulandshahr, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her father after he found out that she had stolen a box of candies from a local grocery shop, according to police reports on Saturday. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting severe issues of domestic violence and child abuse.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The incident occurred when Pooja Rani, a Class 6 student at a government primary school, went to buy candies following the Navratri feast on Thursday. It is alleged that she took a box of candies without paying for it. Upon learning of this, her father, Pushpendra Kumar, who works as a milkman, reportedly flew into a rage and repeatedly beat her with sticks. The brutal assault led to Pooja's death, making her the eldest among four siblings in the family.
Mother Injured While Trying to Intervene
Pooja's mother, Aarti Devi, also suffered injuries when she attempted to stop her husband from beating their daughter. In a statement, Aarti said, "In a fit of rage, my husband started beating her with a stick. I begged him to stop, but he hit me too." This highlights the escalating violence within the household, with the mother becoming a victim while trying to protect her child.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
After the incident, Kumar allegedly bolted the house from inside, preventing his wife and other children from calling for help. In the evening, he left the house after locking it from the outside. Aarti then managed to alert the neighbors, who called the police the following morning. Based on Aarti's complaint, the police have registered a case of murder against Pushpendra Kumar. SP (rural) Tejveer Singh stated, "Efforts are on to nab him." The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to locate and apprehend the accused.
Broader Implications and Community Response
This tragic case underscores the urgent need for awareness and intervention in cases of domestic violence and child abuse in India. The local community in Bulandshahr and surrounding areas like Meerut has expressed outrage and sorrow over the incident, calling for stricter enforcement of child protection laws. Such events serve as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children in abusive households and the critical role of law enforcement in ensuring justice.
As the police continue their search for Pushpendra Kumar, the focus remains on providing support to the grieving family and preventing similar tragedies in the future. The case has sparked discussions on parental discipline and the legal consequences of extreme violence against minors.
