Bihar Policeman Booked for Alleged LPG Cylinder Theft and Intimidation in Rohtas District

In a significant development highlighting alleged misuse of authority, an FIR has been officially lodged against a serving policeman at the Dehri-on-Sone police station in Bihar's Rohtas district. The case, registered on Monday, accuses the officer of multiple serious offenses including criminal intimidation, verbal abuse, and the forcible theft of an LPG cylinder from an authorized distributor.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to the formal written complaint submitted by Uday Shankar, a partner at an authorized Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) LPG distributor, the accused individual is identified as Arun Kumar Singh. Singh is reportedly both a registered consumer of the agency and an active member of the Bihar Police force.

The complaint outlines that on March 21, 2026, Singh visited the distributor's office and demanded an LPG cylinder directly from the godown. When staff members informed him that, according to strict government and company regulations, cylinders can only be delivered to consumers' homes against prior bookings, he allegedly became aggressive and verbally abused the employees.

Forcible Seizure and Threats

Later the same day, around 5 PM, the situation escalated dramatically. Singh allegedly intercepted a delivery vehicle in the Tarbangla area of Dehri-on-Sone and forcibly took an LPG cylinder without any proper authorisation. When the delivery personnel insisted on the government-fixed price of Rs 1013, the accused policeman reportedly refused to pay and threatened them directly.

The complaint further states that Singh used his position within the police force to intimidate the delivery staff, even issuing a death threat when they persisted in demanding payment. This action created an atmosphere of fear and prevented the lawful completion of business operations.

Official Response and Investigation

SHO Dehri-on-Sone, Shivendra Kumar, has confirmed the registration of the FIR and stated that a thorough investigation is currently underway. The distributor has formally characterized the incident as a clear case of:

  • Misuse of official power
  • Theft of property
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Obstruction of lawful business operations

A formal request has been submitted to the police authorities to not only register the FIR but also initiate an immediate investigation and take strict legal action against the accused officer.

Wider Circulation of Complaint

Copies of the detailed complaint have been sent to senior district officials to ensure transparency and prompt action. These include:

  1. The District Magistrate (DM)
  2. The Superintendent of Police (SP)
  3. Senior officials of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)

This case brings to light serious concerns about the potential abuse of authority by individuals in positions of power and the challenges faced by civilian businesses in such confrontations. The ongoing investigation will determine the full extent of the allegations and what legal consequences may follow.
