Bengaluru Student Robbed at Knifepoint, Forced to Transfer Rs 49,000 Online
In a shocking late-night incident in Bengaluru, a 19-year-old student was brutally assaulted and forced to transfer Rs 49,000 online by a gang of three miscreants near Nexus Mall. The victim, identified as Gopikishan, a resident of Tavarekere in Suddaguntepalya and a native of Uttar Pradesh, filed a formal complaint with the Adugodi police, detailing the harrowing ordeal that occurred around 1:30 am on March 31.
Details of the Assault and Robbery
Gopikishan, who is studying in the ninth standard at a private school and works as a part-time delivery boy to support his educational and daily expenses, was waiting with his friend Omkar outside the mall for an order. Suddenly, three individuals approached them, demanding money and launching a violent assault. The miscreants hit both boys on the face and hands, causing injuries, and checked their pockets for cash.
Finding no physical money, the gang snatched Gopikishan's mobile phone and forcibly obtained the password to his digital payment application, PhonePe. Under threat at knifepoint, they proceeded to transfer Rs 49,000 in multiple transactions. Before fleeing the scene, the accused issued dire threats, warning the boys against approaching the police.
Police Response and Investigation
Frightened by the threats, Gopikishan delayed reporting the incident but eventually lodged a complaint on Sunday, following advice from his family and friends. The Adugodi police have registered a case of robbery and have launched a comprehensive manhunt to apprehend the accused. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence to track down the perpetrators.
This incident highlights the growing concerns over street crime and digital theft in urban areas, particularly targeting vulnerable individuals like students working part-time jobs. Police urge citizens to remain vigilant and report such incidents promptly to ensure swift action.
