Barnala Police Suspends Dhanaula SHO for Second Time in Three Months Over Alleged Misconduct

In a significant development, Barnala Police have placed Dhanaula SHO inspector Lakhbir Singh under suspension for the second time in less than three months. This action follows renewed allegations of misconduct, including misbehavior with the daughter of a deceased BSF deputy commandant and the use of abusive language against women during a dispute over street construction.

First Suspension Over Alleged Misbehavior with BSF Officer's Daughter

The initial suspension occurred after inspector Lakhbir Singh was accused of misbehaving with Jaswinder Kaur, the daughter of deceased BSF deputy commandant Sukhcharan Singh, who resides in Kaleka village. The incident stemmed from a property dispute in the village, where some wooden logs were fixed after land measurement in Jaswinder Kaur's absence, which she subsequently uprooted.

Upon a complaint from the other party, Jaswinder Kaur and her nephew Harpreet Singh were summoned to Dhanaula police station on December 4, 2025. According to sources, heated exchanges ensued, with the SHO alleging that Jaswinder and Harpreet attempted to tear off his uniform. Jaswinder Kaur, however, claimed that SHO Lakhbir Singh severely thrashed Harpreet Singh and used foul language against her, leading to the registration of an FIR. Following this, the SHO was suspended but was later reinstated after some time.

Second Incident Involving Abusive Language Against Women

Earlier this week, a new controversy erupted over the alignment of interlocking tiles being laid in a street at Rajgarh village, which also falls under the jurisdiction of Dhanaula police station. Locals reported that inspector Lakhbir Singh arrived in the village and allegedly used abusive and obscene language against women involved in the dispute. The situation escalated to the point where one individual, Manjinder Singh, consumed a poisonous substance in distress, though he was fortunately saved.

Political Reactions and Official Statements

BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh expressed strong condemnation on social media, stating, "Whatever happened with the daughter of a Deputy Commandant is intolerable. The SHO not only used abusive language but thrashed them in the police station. No justice in four months and the SHO getting reinstated shows how accountable officials are in Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal regime."

In response, Barnala SSP Sarfaraz Alam clarified the situation, noting, "The matter pertaining to Jaswinder Kaur is an old one and SHO was transferred to police lines. He was again posted as SHO and, taking action in the case of a man gulping poisonous substance, SHO Inspector Lakhbir Singh has been placed under suspension again."

This repeated suspension highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and accountability in the region, with authorities under scrutiny for their handling of such sensitive cases.
