Tragic Ambulance Collision in Assam Claims Seven Lives
A devastating road accident in Assam's Sonitpur district has resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals, including a child, following a head-on collision between an ambulance and a speeding truck late on Sunday night. Police authorities confirmed the grim details of the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the region.
Victims Identified, Six Perished Immediately
Sonitpur Senior Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha provided the identities of the victims, all of whom were traveling inside the ambulance. The deceased have been named as driver Bijoy Hensa, Hari Madgi, Kunal Karmakar, Bisesh Nath, Sanjita Nath, Sandiyashree Nath, and Samir Nath. According to official statements, six of these individuals died instantly at the scene of the crash, while one succumbed to severe injuries after being rushed to the Dhekiajuli health centre for emergency medical treatment.
Accident Details and Location
The fatal collision occurred on National Highway 15, approximately five kilometers from Dhekiajuli town near the Rabartola area, which is also known as Alichinga. This tragic event falls under the jurisdiction of the Dhekiajuli Police Station. At the time of the accident, the ambulance was actively transporting a patient from Tulip Tea Estate to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital for urgent care.
The collision involved a truck that was registered in the state of Uttarakhand and was reportedly heading towards the Orang National Park area. Police investigations have revealed that the truck was being operated at an excessively high speed, which likely contributed significantly to the severity of the crash.
Truck Driver Flees, Search Operation Underway
In a distressing development, the driver of the truck immediately fled the scene following the collision and is currently absconding. Law enforcement agencies have launched an extensive search operation to locate and apprehend the driver. Authorities have stated that they have not yet been able to establish any concrete identity for the truck driver, complicating the investigation efforts.
