Agra Tenant Killed in Police Encounter After Murder of 7-Year-Old Girl Over Rent Dispute
In a tragic and shocking incident in Agra, a 35-year-old tenant was shot dead in a police encounter on Saturday, just three days after he allegedly murdered a seven-year-old girl whose body was found with her throat slit and stuffed inside a flour storage box. The brutal crime reportedly stemmed from a dispute over unpaid rent.
Discovery of the Child's Body
The Class 1 student went missing while playing near her house in the Tajganj area of Agra on March 24. Her family immediately approached the police, leading to the registration of a First Information Report initially under BNS section 137 for kidnapping at the Tajganj police station.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Piyush Kant Rai stated, "Twelve dedicated police teams were formed to locate the missing girl. On March 25, they discovered her body inside a flour container in the room of Sunil Kumar, a 35-year-old tenant who lived in a house owned by the girl's family."
The room was located directly opposite the girl's residence, and she was familiar with Kumar. Once the body was found, BNS section 103 for murder was added to the FIR.
Background of the Accused and Rent Dispute
Sunil Kumar had been living as a tenant in the property for approximately two years and worked at a shoe manufacturing unit owned by the girl's father. According to police and family statements, Kumar had developed a rapport with the child and often took her out.
The girl's uncle revealed, "Kumar had not paid his rent for five consecutive months, which led the family to lock his room and ask him to vacate the premises."
Police investigations suggest that an altercation over the overdue rent, during which Kumar was reportedly slapped, may have triggered the horrific incident. Kumar later paid Rs 5,000 as part of the outstanding dues, and the room was subsequently unlocked shortly before the tragedy unfolded.
Police Encounter and Fatal Outcome
Early on Saturday morning, acting on specific intelligence, police teams surrounded Kumar, who was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sayed Ali Abbas provided details of the encounter.
"Around 3 a.m., Kumar was attempting to flee to Firozabad. The area was swiftly cordoned off by our personnel. When they tried to apprehend him, he opened fire, injuring a sub-inspector. In the ensuing retaliatory fire, Kumar sustained injuries," DCP Abbas explained.
Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. The injured sub-inspector is currently receiving medical treatment.
