10 Booked for Assaulting Sisters in Pilibhit Land Row

A violent altercation stemming from a dispute over illegally occupied government land has rocked Bailha village in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district. Police have registered a case against ten individuals, including three unidentified persons, for allegedly assaulting two sisters. The incident is directly linked to their father's role in helping revenue officials reclaim the contested land.

The Assault and Immediate Aftermath

The complaint, filed by 60-year-old Ratan Singh on Saturday, states that the attack occurred on December 31. According to the FIR, farmer Mahendra Singh from Tilla Number 4 village, accompanied by his associates, forcibly entered Ratan Singh's home. They then proceeded to thrash his daughters, Meena Kaur (23) and Paramjeet Kaur (26).

The assailants did not stop at physical violence. Ratan Singh's complaint details that the men hurled abuses at the women and issued death threats to the entire family. Mahendra Singh reportedly told the sisters that since their father assisted the administration in destroying their wheat crop, they must now face the consequences. Both women sustained severe head injuries and trauma and are currently undergoing medical treatment.

Root Cause: The Illegal Land Occupation

The chain of events leading to the assault began approximately a month prior. Puranpur tehsildar Ashish Gupta explained that Mahendra Singh and his associates had illegally taken possession of 3.5 acres of government land in Bailha village to sow wheat.

When revenue department officials moved to reclaim the land, they sought assistance from local farmer Ratan Singh. In response to their request, Ratan Singh used his tractor to help destroy the illegally sown wheat crop, facilitating the administration's successful reclamation of the property. This act is believed to have triggered the retaliatory attack on his family.

Legal Action and Police Response

Acting on the complaint, the Hajara police station has taken swift legal action. Station House Officer (SHO) Sharad Yadav confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been officially registered.

The accused have been booked under multiple stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Section 333: House trespass after preparation for hurt.
  • Section 191(2): Rioting.
  • Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt.
  • Section 352: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.
  • Section 351(3): Criminal intimidation.

The police investigation is now underway to identify and apprehend the three unnamed accused and gather further evidence in the case.
