Varanasi Introduces Organized Color-Coded Parking System to Alleviate Traffic Congestion

In a significant move to enhance urban mobility, the Varanasi Police Commissionerate has rolled out a meticulously organized and color-coded parking system in the bustling Kachehri area. This initiative, spearheaded by Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal, aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce road encroachments, marking a proactive step toward improving the city's infrastructure.

New Parking Designations and Implementation Details

Under the newly implemented system, parking spaces have been clearly demarcated with distinct color codes to ensure order and efficiency. Specifically, two-wheeler parking is designated within green strips, while four-wheeler parking is allocated within yellow strips. This visual differentiation is expected to minimize confusion and promote compliance among vehicle owners.

The system was officially inaugurated on Thursday by Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal, who personally affixed parking passes on advocates' vehicles, symbolizing the commencement of this traffic management effort. The launch event highlighted the commissioner's commitment to addressing long-standing traffic issues in the area.

Free Parking Passes for Advocates in Phased Distribution

To facilitate a smooth transition, free vehicle parking passes are being distributed in phases to advocates registered with the Central Bar Association and the Banaras Bar Association. The distribution is based on their COP numbers, ensuring a systematic and fair allocation process.

According to available data, a total of 7,637 advocates are registered in the Central Bar Association, and 5,604 are registered in the Banaras Bar Association. All eligible advocates will receive passes as per prescribed standards, which is anticipated to significantly reduce unauthorized parking and contribute to smoother traffic operations.

Strict Enforcement and Future Expansions

Authorities have issued a stern warning that vehicles parked illegally outside the designated color-coded system will be promptly removed, and offenders will face strict legal action. This enforcement is part of a broader strategy to make roads encroachment-free and ensure uninterrupted traffic movement.

In addition to the current implementation, plans are underway to expand the parking facility within one week. The top floor of the existing multilevel parking structure will be utilized to accommodate approximately 500 additional vehicles, further easing congestion and providing more parking options for residents and visitors alike.

This comprehensive approach by the Varanasi Police Commissionerate reflects a dedicated effort to tackle urban traffic challenges through innovative and organized solutions, setting a precedent for other cities to follow.
