Prayagraj's Rural Road Network Set for Major Overhaul
In a significant boost to rural infrastructure, Prayagraj is poised to witness the renovation of 387 rural link roads after a five-year gap. Governor Anandiben Patel has given the green light to a proposal from the public works department (PWD), which was submitted four months ago, paving the way for this extensive project.
Budget and Execution Plan
A substantial budget of Rs 56.86 crore has been released to fund the renovation efforts. The responsibility for executing the works has been assigned to PWD's construction division 4, also known as the Kumbh Mela division. This division has already initiated the tender process, with a target to finalize it by February 20.
According to officials, once the agencies are selected through the tender, the renovation work is expected to be completed within a tight timeframe of four months. This swift execution underscores the government's commitment to improving rural connectivity and transportation for local residents.
Scope and Coverage of the Project
The project encompasses a total stretch of 494.55 kilometers of roads, including both big and small routes, across four key assembly constituencies: Phaphamau, Phulpur, Handia, and Soraon. As part of the state government's regular road renewal cycle, which occurs every five years, these 387 roads were identified for reconstruction.
The renovation will focus on rebuilding both main roads and rural link routes, aiming to significantly enhance connectivity and ease transportation challenges for the communities in these areas.
Key Roads Included in the Renovation
The project features several important routes that are set to undergo renovation, including:
- The Handia–Soraon–Phulpur–Handia route via Damgarha.
- The Balrampur Bazaar to Jagatpur railway crossing road via Lilapur, Jamunipur, and Dhokri, leading to Binda.
- The Sahson to Tiwari Pur, Belwa Girdharpur, Babuganj, and Saraichandi link road.
- The stretch from Jabaradih pond on National Highway to Ahiran Bind Basti.
Other significant routes to be renovated are:
- The Lahati canal culvert to Bighiya section on the Soraon–Phulpur–Handia road.
- Lamhi link road.
- Sarai Khatun link road.
- Garapur to Paigambarpur via Nibi Khurd to Dhurwa road.
- Raiya link road.
Official Commitment to Timely Completion
Executive engineer Surendra Singh has confirmed that the tender process is underway. He emphasized the department's dedication to completing the renewal work within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring that the benefits of improved infrastructure reach the residents as quickly as possible.
This initiative marks a crucial step in addressing long-standing connectivity issues in Prayagraj's rural areas, promising to boost local economies and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents.
