Lucknow Municipal Corporation Greenlights Comprehensive Development Agenda
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) convened a pivotal House meeting on Wednesday, where members unanimously approved a sweeping series of development initiatives aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and fostering planned growth across the city.
Major Land Development and Township Project
In a significant move, the corporation cleared the construction of a new township on a 21.6-acre parcel of land located in Amausi. This decision is part of a broader strategy to utilize LMC's total landholding of 41.6 acres in the area. Notably, 20 acres of this land fall within a shooting range, which will be revitalized through a public-private partnership model. The remaining 21.6 acres have been designated for transfer to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to facilitate the development of residential apartments, marking a coordinated effort to address housing needs and optimize land use.
Additional Land Transfers and Ward Development Funds
Further expanding its development footprint, the House resolved to hand over 5,429.96 square metres of land in Jiyamau to the LDA. This land, previously returned by the Deendayal Upadhyay Seva Nyas, will now be earmarked for planned development projects. Complementing these land-based initiatives, the corporation approved a substantial ward development fund of Rs 1.10 crore for each of Lucknow's 110 wards. These funds are specifically allocated for local-level infrastructure improvements, including the construction of drains, roads, and other essential public amenities, ensuring grassroots development aligns with city-wide goals.
Infrastructure and Environmental Enhancements
The meeting also sanctioned a variety of infrastructure and environmental projects designed to boost connectivity and sustainability. Key approvals included:
- Construction of roads in Aliganj, Gol Market, Kapoorthala, and Rajnikhand to improve traffic flow and accessibility.
- Installation of solar lights in parks across the city to promote energy efficiency and public safety.
- Beautification of the Dhobighat pond in Alamnagar, along with desilting of the Kukrail River to enhance water management and aesthetic appeal.
- Development of green zones in Natkur using the 'Miyawaki' method, a technique for creating dense, fast-growing urban forests to combat pollution and increase green cover.
Addressing Waterlogging and Sewerage Challenges
To combat persistent waterlogging issues, the corporation approved critical drainage and sewer projects in several key areas. These include Lohia Nagar, Vikas Nagar, and Bhawaniganj, as well as the implementation of an underground drainage system near the Amausi railway station. These measures are part of a proactive approach to urban resilience and public health.
Streamlined Processes and Official Statements
In a move to simplify administrative procedures, the House approved a proposal to streamline property mutation rates, aiming to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for residents. Reflecting on the decisions, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal emphasized that these initiatives represent a coordinated push to improve basic services and facilitate planned urban growth. Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar added, "We are prioritising projects that address drainage, road connectivity, and public amenities. Clear timelines will be set and monitored to ensure these works are completed without delays." This underscores the administration's commitment to timely execution and accountability in urban development efforts.
