Naidu Advocates National River Interlinking Project
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stated on Thursday that interlinking the Ganga and Cauvery rivers would render India unstoppable. Speaking at a water management conference, he emphasized the need for a phased approach, starting with interlinking rivers within states before connecting them across state borders.
Phased Implementation Strategy
According to the Chief Minister, the first phase should focus on intra-state river linking to ensure local water security. Once that is achieved, inter-state linking can proceed. Naidu highlighted that such projects could mitigate floods, droughts, and boost agricultural productivity. He cited successful examples from Andhra Pradesh, where the Godavari and Krishna rivers have been linked, benefiting millions of farmers.

Naidu argued that a national water grid would not only address water scarcity but also generate hydroelectric power and improve navigation. He called for political consensus and central funding, noting that the project would require an investment of over ₹5 lakh crore. The CM stressed that the interlinking of the Ganga and Cauvery would transform the agrarian economy and create millions of jobs.
