The BMC has now established a strict seven-day deadline for compliance. The civic authority has warned that failure to comply will result in the matter being escalated to the collector of Mumbai suburban district. Local resident Dhaval Shah from Lokandwala highlighted the frequency of fire incidents, noting that "almost a fire occurs in the area every month." This alarming pattern underscores the urgent necessity for localized firefighting infrastructure.

The urgency of the situation was tragically underscored on Tuesday when a fire broke out on the ninth floor of Meghdoot, a 22-storey residential building in Andheri West. "It has come to our notice that the reserved plot is currently being used illegally for various commercial purposes, including as a marriage hall, for turf activities, and as shooting studios," Savarkar stated. "Strict and immediate action should be taken against such unauthorized use. A modern, fully equipped fire station on this plot will significantly enhance emergency response capacity and ensure the safety of residents throughout the entire locality."

Procedural Requirements and Timelines

Alongside the land acquisition notice, the BMC has directed the project architect to submit a formal proposal accompanied by a bank guarantee. This procedural step is designed to ensure that, once approval is granted, construction of the fire station will commence and be completed within an 18-month timeframe.
